Welcome To MVN
“Necessity, who is the mother of invention.” –Plato
The business office down in Santa Barbara has been after me to jot down a few thoughts as an inaugural blog entry for the awaited www.mattolevalleynaturals.com. MVN as a formal company is actually a fairly recent phenomena. MVN products have been in use for a good number of years, but exclusive to certain networks within competitive athletics, and patrons of my associates within integrative medicine.
The products were initially made in small batches to first cover my own needs, with anything left over to service my private contacts. There was no company name, and blends were referenced by what they did; Performance, Longevity, Yin, Yang etc. One characteristic common to many of our clients is that they take these products very seriously, and tend to get a bit, well … miffed if their supply is interrupted; a sort of cult following if you will.
“Mattole Valley Naturals is a line-up of nutritional-herbal
formulations, and is solitary in the industry for it’s complimentary use
of nutrient-dense whole foods with refined herbalism. “
It’s true that I was the original formulator for what has become Mattole Valley Naturals, and I remain as the primary technical and creative consultant. To put my role within MVN in proper perspective we need to travel back quite a few years in time. My circle of influence in the early seventies was limited to martial artists, Olympic lifters, football players and “gym rats” as we endearingly termed them. Not many PhDs in the mix, but we did know the difference between effortlessly knocking out a set of 10 squats with 405 lbs, or sucking wind at rep number 5. If someone suggested that the Romania lifters were supplementing with horse dung, our only question would be “where do you get the stuff”?
Plato’s keen observation that all creative endeavors are the fruit borne from necessity couldn’t be truer for understanding the genesis of the current MVN product line. Since I managed to parlay my fitness habit into a career as a physician I was able to amass an impressive body of empirical data from clinical practice. Herbalism, as employed by the proven traditions works brilliantly in addressing imbalances in the short term, but the essence building properties of certain “primary” herbs should be supplied in a manner suitable for daily consumption. In fact, other cultures found that such practice would not only contribute to greater longevity, but also preclude much of the need for short-term remedies in the first place. Likewise, nutritional concentrates favored by athletes emphasized the biochemical component at the expense of “energetics”; no different than trying to grow an apple tree without the seed. The pieces were all there, but the discoveries of east and west had yet to find union; and the marketplace spoke loudly of that fact.
Each of the MVN formulas honors the wisdom of both global hemispheres, while successive years of clinical trials became the cauldron for their evolution. Our formulas are not etched in stone. The latest generation now available to you is the most refined and effective to date, but the clinical data continues to expand in pace with our quest for sourcing better and unique ingredients. Stay tuned to www.mattolevalleynaturals.com as we continue to unveil the full product line, and the necessary educational material for you to enjoy the fullest benefits from their use.
Okay … I’m recalling that this is a blog and not a book; so let’s take a bird’s eye overview of the product line:
1) Our flagship Full Spectrum Greens was introduced in the mid-eighties, and took advantage of the remarkable discovery of Blue Green Algae which launched the age of “superfoods”; combined with other complimentary ingredients it became the first whole food one-stop shop for one’s daily nutritional requirements that I am aware of. To date the Full Spectrum Greens has morphed into six whole food-herbal blends, each engineered for a precise effect. Each of these six blends has an herbal infusion companion product, as well as a dual alcohol/water decoction extraction counterpart. That’s six different formulas with three levels of technology for each. The best results come when you know how to mix and match to suit your own desired effects. The MVN site will expand in both education and products as our new “public” audience becomes accustomed to their use.
2) Whey proteins are good sources for amino acids, but not all whey proteins are equal. Our Proserum® Whey was originally designed to rebuild compromised immune systems; much too expensive to use in a daily whey protein supplement it was thought. Whole food/herbal enhancements are added to the Proserum® to lend both nutrition and delicious taste to our one of a kind 10 flavor line-up.
3) Goat Milk Protein is favored by some over Bovine Whey Protein, but I like them both for different reasons. Our Goat Milk Protein is lacto-fermented for predigestion, and the production of beneficial probiotics. Our GMP formulas are also very alkalinizing; a rare claim for protein supplement products. The combination of Goat Milk Protein with organic raw cacao, organic strawberries and vanilla bean impart more of a delicious yoghurt-type effect in contrast with the straight-forward flavors of the Proserum Whey. People love them both, and typically switch between the two lines.
Sure there’s a company now, but the goal remains untainted from those early days in the gym when nothing was more important than pushing the envelope for the sake of itself. We appreciate the many testimonials people have shared concerning our formulas, but anecdotal tributes can only get you so far. We presently sit on the precipice of a consciousness explosion, and our lifestyle and food need be up to the task of preparing the body for the new experiences that lie ahead. Our company is really not a business to us; it’s our lifestyle, and no effort will be spared to make MVN an indispensable part of your life.
