I’ve never been a proponent of taking nutrient-herbal supplements in an encapsulated form for several reasons. First off, if there were any semblance of genuine whole food nutrition present, the size of the pill would necessarily be, well … enormous. The label assay for a typical multi-nutrient-herbal capsule/tablet are an immediate indication that you are ingesting paltry quantities of the natural biochemical complexes, or extracts largely devoid of the synergistic factors in naturally occurring foodstuffs. More critical, most people are prone to swallow supplement pills whole. I’ve always admonished my patients to masticate thoroughly, and taste all encapsulations and tablets! Mom had it right when she told us to chew our food thoroughly, and here’s why.
“Chew your drink, and drink your food.” ~Mahatma Gandhi
Let’s say a particular tissue or organ of the body is in need of repair, and requires specific building blocks to get the job done. This in fact, is happening everywhere in the body all of the time. When the liver, for example, is building new Kupffer cells unique to that organ, old cells of that type are sloughed into a systemic journey through the vast lymphatic and vascular network. DNA fragments from these cells are then sequestered, and stored within the salivary glands. When you chew your food two important events occur. The chemical constituents required by the target organ activate neuro-receptors on the tongue to deliver an immediate and beneficial stimulus to, in this case, the liver. Next, saliva containing the DNA material from the specialized liver cells mixes with the food, and tags the nutrient to shunt it directly to where it is needed most. Insufficient chewing bypasses this dual mechanism, and wastes at least half of the nutrition within our food and nutritional supplements.
Over the years, people have occasionally requested that we offer an encapsulated, or tablet version of our blends for both convenience, and to avoid the natural taste of certain herbs with inherent bitter qualities. MVN Herbal-Greens and Nutritional Blends will never be offered in this form, as we have already justified in our discussion. There is a second rationale for MVN staying true to original form. Asian cultures knew the importance of cultivating the five tastes, while acquiring an appreciation for each. The five tastes are paired with the primary yin organ systems as follows; heart|bitter, liver|sour, spleen|sweet and kidney|salty. Biological systems strive toward balance, and the diet should reflect the five tastes to stimulate each organ system uniformly.
The essence of all beings is earth, the essence of earth is water,
the essence of water is plants, the essence of plants is the human being.
~ Chandogya
Health is awareness; nothing more, and nothing less. Nature has produced botanical analogs for every nuance of human function. Herbs must be tasted, appreciated and “listened to”. Our six Herbal Greens formulas are a desideratum for the herbal archetypes to awaken that same facet within us.
Not surprisingly, first-time and established patrons alike find our Herbal Greens more than palatable, as the presence of organic antioxidant fruits, and raw cacao soften the flavor without completely masking the presence of the master herbs. If you still have a sweet tooth, and I admit to thirty-two of them myself, our ten delicious flavors of Whey and Goat Protein Blends will leave you both satiated and nourished.
